Character Discussion Do you think Zoro would have been popular MC than luffy ?

After looking at quite a lot of threads in the forum Zoro seems to be more popular than luffy. This is rare for many other manga where MC is overshadowed by side character.

I have noticed Oda is more comfortable in drawing zoro , rarely see him getting mocked by opponents . Even with recent fan polls Zoro is massively popular in different continents.

What appeals fans that likes Zoro than law, kidd, luffy ? Just general question here ?

He acts cool and savage while Luffy is a good idealist, they attract different personalities and age/generations, I think there are differences even from country to country.
I like them both, but I wouldn't keep reading for 13+ years an opera based on a cool slayer, who spends his days sleeping, drinking and training, that sometimes has beautiful moment of friendship, sacrifice and determination and leadership (what I like the most). As a secondary character works perfectly, a right-hand man and maybe Luffy's best friend today.

If I am not mistaken in the popularity polls Luffy is always the first. And even among Zoro fans, I am one myself, I don't think many would see him as a better main character than Luffy and that is simply because that will make his character change from what he is, so thank you but no thanks.

Zoro forumula as a character is also not new, the original part is that it was "perfected" from other similair versions.
We have the solar, positive etc. Typical shounen MC (see Goku, Naruto and many others) while Zoro is the other side of the moon. Calm and collected (outside of the gags of course) but while other ones were way too much emo (Sauce) or too delusional/obsessed (Vegeta, it felt bad to see him struggle so much but fail at surpassing Goku at every turn) Zoro is better, the rivalry is very very light while the aim of the character is to keep the whole group safe and step in when the captain can't solve something. And have of course his cool moments and all.

I mean, sometimes having an MC that's simple yet endearing like Luffy draws people to him and in turn people also become more interested in characters like Zoro that don't get as much panel-time but are just as endearing in their own way.

No guarantee that if Zoro was MC he'd have even more fans or that One Piece would be even going as long as it has been if Luffy wasn't MC. I'd say due to the way One Piece is, it draws so many people to Zoro due to his differences to Luffy as well as due to the fact Luffy is MC. Overall, the results of the world wide popularity poll comes out next month, I think so we'll see.

Think the older demographic is more drawn to Zoro’s character type/aesthetic, which is why he seems more popular in certain spaces but Luffy is still bigger overall.

Believe it or not I don't think Oda does all he can for Zoro. But... Luffy is the best shonen protagonist and this entire series is built around him.

Zoro is known for being bad ass.
Luffy as character has more aspects like his unique Charisma.
the current Zoro is not better as a MC .

It's not rare at all. People love the edgy side character, happens all the time in shonen.

Yes Zoro would be a much better and more popular MC than Luffy. He's already more popular worldwide with half the panel time.

Zoro is already almost as popular as Luffy, I would say it's not too haphazard to assert around equally popular.

I mean, a lot of Zoro's hypest moments are because he isn't the MC. His willingness to throw away his pride and even his life to support Luffy is the cherry on top of the Sundae Of Badassitude that he is.

Zoro shines as a secondary character. If he was the MC, we would have Luffy lvl panel-time....and then people would grow tired of him.

With Zoro as a MC the story would have ended after 20 chapters with Zoro dying cause Zoro doens't have what needed to gather a good crew
