The issue is he is presumably aware he would get lynched next if Natalija flipped town. Hardly anything would alter the fabric of that. That's why the logical argumentation.

If not someone might attempt to shoot him earlier. He would need to be bulletproof/resistant or mess with the vig ability to even survive a single night.
