no, sanji knows his haki and he said without the suit he would have a hole in his stomach anything else is headcanon
He didn't said that, he said it could potentially "let a hole on his stomach" during the clash, it's reasonable, just like Zoro got pierced with a random scythe by getting distracted
Only when he got up from the attack he said the suit was resistant, basicly helped him to absorb damage and barely get hurt

He said that because he didn't know the suit would protect him and he could feel that king's haki was stronger

Sometimes it feels like the fanbase tends to downplay most strawhats in order to keep them weak in their minds, if Robin hadn't low diffed Hakuba I think most would agree he was around Flying 6 level.
The thing is that match up is very important. Hakuba is a wild beast with no brain and speed itself is useless against Robin (she already stated that when defeating Pell). I think Hakuba def is Tobi Roppo level, but Robin nowhere near - was just a highly superior match up advantage Robin got there, and perhaps she was lucky that Hakuba didnt attack her from 10m distance like it would be in a fair 1v1, but attacked her from several hundred meters so she had much time to prepare and counter his speed.

Straw Hats are in general rather much overrated than underrated.
