Yes, yes it is. It's not hard to pinpoint the chief problems either, it's a staggering combination of a few that make it hard to get attached to the arc and the struggle.

  1. 350~ chapters of set up for mostly lackluster fights, reveals and plotlines
  2. Very little establishment for the meaningful antagonists after such a long build up.
  3. SMILE Fruits, one of the few things Oda established long ago as Kaido's bid for dominance, are decorations for Oda's paneling.

Going into Wano we should know more about the Beast Pirates than we do, so we can either focus more on the Samurai side of things as Oda mostly did or expand on the characters of the chief Beast Pirate characters. Instead, Oda gave us a big focus on Orochi and his goons which has little to no payoff. Not only do none of the characters have strong ties to the plot anymore, when Orochi was beheaded publicly 8~ chapters in the raid, it made all that time redundant.

It's a good shocking moment, but it's far from a good use of Oda's time. Especially when the 3 Calamites are still going chiefly off design and some scraps of personality, the Tobi Roppo were introduced 37 chapters ago and most have less than a full chapter of panel time from all that. We know virtually knowing about our enemies, Kaido included, so it's just... Tough to feel the tension or root against them (or for them).

Maybe if there was less build up or just less villains, this'd be fine. Alabasta Saga got away with introducing most of the upper crust of Baroque Works late into the game. But it just doesn't work with 5 freshly introduced antagonists, 3 we've known for 100 chapters now (almost 200 for Jack) and still have no idea what they're about.

SMILE Fruits also suck. Artificial devil fruits that have a 1/10th of working and the benefit isssss. Zlich. You become something colorful to laugh at for the reader. It started promising, Sheepshead was an unknown officer and seemed to do well against Brook. But god damn, are they useless freaks. I can't understand why Kaido wanted a full crew of these guys so badly.
You just reminded me that the Mimawarigumi was a thing. What a dreadful waste of time.

When I think about it, Wano does rank near the bottom of arcs for me. My ratings aren't as low as some people's because it's still One Piece which I love, but my lowest arcs are all 7/10. Fishmen Island, Skypiea, Punk Hazard and now Wano.

I genuinely try to put myself in your shoes and try to see the good in Wano but I can't. I seriously don't understand how anyone can like this arc. It's 105+ chapters of people being knocked down, to getting back up as if nothing happened, only for them to get knocked down yet again. Or people just running around doing absolutely nothing like what was the point of Momo and Yamato running around doing absolutely nothing for 10+ chapters, and then finally Yamato separates from Momo which she goes up to the roof to face Kaido but Kaido went downstairs so she had to go back down again. Like how can that be 7/10 writing? Oda isn't even doing the most simple of proof reading of his own work.

Well the arc isn't over yet so we'll see....

But boy oh boy do i have problems with this arc.

1. First of all: the overall plot isn't that interesting- its just a revenge plot of retainers (Scarabs) seeking vengeance for their master (Oden), something that is quite popular among samurai stories. Sure you could say that Oda used a 'classic' trope, but there is nothing new that Oda really does with this kind of story, unless you count in pirates and devil fruits, which is already normal for One Piece Arcs.

2. Oden. I don't know about anybody else, but i didn't really like his character. Dude was a strong, but also overconfident, inconsiderate and also oblivious dunce. If Oda's plan was was to make me like oden as this 'chad' character, then sorry but what i consider him is nothing but a strong, overrated dickhead. Along comes a stronger bully (Kaido), and Oden's character really doesn't get better. Oden's struggle of being boiled was impressive, but still didn't change my opinion of him in the end. Whitebeard is still a better chad and character then Oden.

3. The Scarabs overall. Honestly i don't even know what Oda is doing with them. Oda has invested so much in them, taking up many panel times- but in the end i still don't really care about them. I think that having them as a group instead of making them all individually interesting and unique was a mistake. Only Kinemon's writing-till his death, made me feel for him. Every other Scarab i don't give a shit. Momonosuke is also just a crybaby and a brat. None of these people even compare to Vivi imo. Oda needs to invest better writing in his characters and let them drive the plot, instead of the plot driving the characters. Vivi's struggle as a lost princess who becomes a spy inside his enemy's ranks and is selfless in saving her country by befriending a bunch of ragtag pirates as her last hope is more interesting than a bunch of samurai fighting pirates.

Here's a question i would like Oda to answer: who is Wano's main protagonist? Kinemon? Didn't impress me until his death, and now that he is dead he doesn't matter anymore. Momonosuke? Just a crybaby, as a storytelling medium i find him to be useless. His sister Hiyori? Lmfao don't think we've seen her ever since she slept with Zoro. Oden was just a flashback.

There is nobody in the scarabs that is as engaging and interesting as even Vivi, and that's a problem. It's gotten so bad to the point that right now i care more about Yamato than the Scarabs.

4. The pacing is shit. I don't need to explain this, everybody knows this already. And in the breaks and it gets even worse.

5. Fake hype/tension and useless plot points and introductions that went nowhere
. remember the Numbers hype? Nami losing Zeus but not really. WTF are the Big Mom Pirates doing on Wano-will we ever get to see Sweet commander Smoothie fight? Who knows. The minks look like won't be getting their revenge for Pedro either. Also what happened to their "Dawn" prophecy, or was that also a fake hype/plot. Carrot has disappeared in this arc so I guess so. Does anybody still care about Big Mom?

6. Luffy constantly being recklessly charging into Kaido and losing the fights loses a lot of tension. There are also few consequences of Luffy's failures to stop Kaido until very recently- that again being Kinemon's death.

7. A lot of useless, forgettable characters than hog up panel time nonetheless. Somebody said that the Mimawarigumi is a thing in this arc. I just remembered this and i can't even remember their names.

I'm sure there will be more to add to the list once this arc is over.....

Wano is so tiring to read for me. Too many unnecessary plots and characters. I couldn't care less about Wano characters like the 9 scabbards, Momo, Tama and etc.

Bs power up for strawhats and inconsistent power scaling and till now, we still doesn't get the proper explanation regarding haki system. Big Mom continue to become a big meme. Fake out deaths here and there. Okiku and his incompetence ass. I got more to rant but I'm going to keep it for now. Last but not least, ACT 3 CONTINUE TO BE A NEVER- ENDING SAGA.

Post Time Shit Problems:

Arcs:
  1. Fishman Island: 3/10. Fisher Tiger saved this arc. Jimbei flashback was Goat. Kizaru/Arlong stuff was cool. Shirahoshi, Hody Jones, Otohime, and the ugly fucks of the Princes ruined it. The story of the Noah could have been interesting.
  2. Punk Hazard: 9/10. High Stakes while it was running. Great Characters. We got Smoker Back, Robin, Doffy, Vergo, Monet, Caesar, Law, and ending it off with Aokiji. I love winter and snow so maybe I'm biased. Even Smily was a great addition.
  3. Dressrosa: 10/10. I respect this as much as Marineford. There was crazy stakes. Although the Birdcage was PIS, it was needed. Fujitora was a great Admiral. Zoro had a great feat. I like Pica despite his ridiculous portrayal. Doflamingo is the best villain in OP yet. The Grand Fleet were all interesting. I didn't like the Tontatta's, but in relation to Usopp they became better. Usopp had great moments. Really the half of the crew that I enjoyed the most were explored this arc. So I had no problems. Sanji, Nami, Chopper, Momo, the characters I care least about Fucked off, so that was good.
  4. Zou: 3/10. I don't care. It had some nostalgia, but it just flew by. Pedro was cool. Inu was cool. Don't care about the rest of the Minks tbh... Not that minks are bad.
  5. Whole Cake Island: 2/10. I hate Sanji LOL
  6. Reverie: 10/10. Not every arc could be like this. But world building was much needed.
  7. Wano: Fuck the Samurai, Fuck the Scabbards. Fuck Oden. Fuck Cosplay Oden. Fuck Toki. Fuck for being boring. 2/10. Those two are because of Zoro.
Characters:
  • Luffy: Oda massacred my boy. I'm not going to even talk about how bad Luffy is now. Should be clear as day
  • Momo: Really? This is the guy we are supposed to root for? Why :tchpepe:
  • Toki: I explained above.
  • Sanji: Oda's wife had to have been fucked by some Sanji Cosplayer or his VA. They massacred his character.
  • Nami/Robin: The fan service... Why?
  • Yamatoe: No you right Oda, what I needed was another inconsiderate dumb fuck of a character
  • Samurai: Why? Cuz fuck em thats why
  • Scabbards: Man could they shut the fuck up and drop dead already? Holy fuck, literally no onee gives a shit
  • Ulti: Scrambled Eggs havin ass bitch
  • X Drake: Oh man, this dude was so cool, what happened?
  • Hawkins: Oh man, this pasty fuck was already a Lame, Oda managed to feed him Glue during the timeskip
  • Big Meme: Lmao this posed to be a Yonko, she became a Meme lmaoo
  • Big Meme Pirates: They got neg diffed by a bird, there was like 10 of them lmaooo
Best Post Skip Characters: Zoro, Law, Katakuri, Kaido

This all I could think of. Don't care enough to elaborate
The best arc of the ts a 3/10 :crazwhat:

Dressrosa was garbage not sure what arc you have been reading there to warrant a 10/10

Yeah what an amazing arc dragging clowns like Caesar and Monet for multiple rounds

Nope, Wano is better than Dressrosa (which was pretty good) and WCI (which wasn’t).

Dressrosa is getting the treatment that every big arc since Skypiea has gotten- it’s getting reread in bulk when it’s completed. Dressrosa had the exact same complaints about it being made about it weekly. And tbh, I much prefer the Wano cast than I do the Riku family (apart from Kyros, Kyros was cool), the gladiators, the Tontatta and DD’s crew.

Onigashima was too ambitious imo, way too many different fights and characters, so setting up fights is taking so much time. :zosleepy:

The scabbards wasted so many chapters, apart from kinemon and denjiro all the other scabbards are so damn boring but oda keeps showing them again and again. :josad:

And i don't even want to talk about tama most boring plot we've ever seen in all one piece history but oda keeps wasting chapters for her... :gonope:

I don't know why some people think Wano is the worst arc, Wano is a 10/10 best arc ever.:yasu:

Remember when Oda focused on a fight between Luffy and Urashima, that was such a great fight between those two and I'm glad Oda focused on that.:madmonk:

Then we have the whole Big Mom amnesia subplot which was amazing!:akaman:

The Udon chapters were straight fire.:steef:

Also I'm glad that the fight between Sulong Inu and Neko vs Jack was off screened, the fight against the SMILE users are just so much better.:fujilaugh:

Lastly can I just say Tama is the best character introduced in the Wano arc.:ace:
