Free speech vs Hate speech

It seems most people like the idea of free speech untill someone says something they don't agree with, which is the entire purpose of free speech.

If we allow censorship to take place with people we don't like then free speech doesn't actually exist.

I agree you shouldn't hurt someone with your words intentionally, or be hostile towards people.

However that is very subjective, there is no clear line to be drawn, anything that offends you can become hate speech or you don't like personally, what happened to the saying "I may not agree with what you said but I'll defend to the death your right to say it"?

Consequences such as? Unless you get butthurt about something a person says and attack them for it there is no consequence to a person's free speech, and in which case you'd be the one experiencing the consequences of your actions.

You're right about that but I guess I'm someone who looks behind the veil of the curtain alot, I understand the reason free speech exists in the first place, so I sometimes assume other people are on my level of understanding when it comes to some of these things. It's never wise to shut down someone for saying something you don't agree with but it's their forum so they can do whatever they want.
