Revert him back to his pre timeskip self, specifically East Blue. He shows hints of that character sometimes, but he's a shell of himself overall. Most of the Strawhats are tbh, they've been watered down to be defined by their quirks (stupidity, perversion, being cute etc). "Perks" of an overcrowded cast.

He should become an edge lord and that will make him a "better" character obviously...
He should say some badass one liners frequently and that would make him no. 1 character...
He should make evil plots and schemes and should laugh while killing or torturing someone and that would make him more complex character....
And more importantly he should use swords in a badass way and that will make him better character automatically....

I will write more when I remember something...

Give him an actual personal dilemma beyond the usual shonen โ€˜NaHt StRoNk EnUfFโ€™. Naruto might have executed it horribly but Naruto at least had to contemplate the broken Shinobi system and the endless cycle of war and revenge. Luffy contemplates absolutely nothing, has no moral quandaries and has zero regard to those whom his quest for freedom inadvertently harms, namely those who were victimised by releasing thousands of murders and rapists back into the world.

Make him like his early self (east blue- Sabaody) , morally grey willing to do anything to protect his friends and what he holds dear, but make him true to his character and his selfishness.
He is still morally grey isn't it??...he never bothered about poisoning BIgMom or destroying islands in the process etc.

what does this even mean??...He is technically a pirate not a hero right? Besides, he saved many islands....

Just subtract his panel time and distribute it among other strawhats. His character is fine as it is.

Stop this hate, he is way more interesting than his new underling Law

Where is Celestial when you need him

I think most people hate Luffy (only in this forum anyways) not because he is bad as a character but probably because he got more screen time than other SH...I don't think people even find it as a problem if he shares screen time with SH...he has great moments in post-TS but other SH didn't have many top moments and instead it was given to other characters and so this happened

Was Oda bold decision.

Tho making the all SHs the main players in the expanding world would have been a bit silly too.

A lot of readers are only into OP for the lore.....
