It's a perfectly valid argument tho.
As a narrative it makes no sense to pitch Zoro against the Captain of the Crew, make him do quite well, and then just turn him back to fight his First Mate.
Oda has done this a few times with Zoro, but they felt different. Either Zoro wasn't able to do much against the Captain OR the second fight ended up being shit.
Like Buggy for example, Zoro wasn't able to do much against him because of his Fruit, so he fought Cabaji after.
Hody Jones is another example, a lot of people make fun of him for Zoro defeating him UNDERWATER, and then we get that boring ass fight with Hyouzou (who i had to google to even remember the name).
