That "bad writing" is something that you should have been accustomed, it happened in many arcs prior.

However if you had acknowledged that Luffy is the mc and how Shonen works this wouldn't have been an issue.

I can't deny i did't see it coming, i guess the reason i ignored it was hope for pre timeskip writing quality to return.

his admiration for Luffy FAR out weighs that.
