And goku never beat Broly the author himself stated that goku would never beat Broly as sayajin, in a guide the author said that when goku and vegeta merge, be it potara or not, the fusion will always defeat its enemy and broly was defeated through fusion and not by goku himself directly surpassing him, goku beat JIREN solo, accept, SOLO.
