Questions & Mysteries Why Roger îs not a swordman

#25
All admirals are trained in swordsmanship to a point. And the most weve seen him pushed he used a sword. So he could be.
That´s not a concrete answer my dude, sorry. You guys seem to have a clear definition of what a swordsman is, and we have seen Kizaru enough to answer that question, no?

We've see him fight with a sword against a guy who by Garp was considered a legend.

And we've see him dispatch fodders with kicks.

:kayneshrug:

I would say he's a mixed fighter tho but swordmanship will be used in the main fights.

Kizaru is a swordsman! The only time in this manga where he was pushed he used a sword. I don’t see what the big deal is
Anybody said it´s a big deal? You guys are calling people swordsman or not based on a supposed definition nobody has made clear, hence the question

Have we seen enough of him serious is the question.
Is that relevant for your definition?

And he attacked the strongest man in the world without a sword attack several times both long range and close range, so both are serious options for him

Cuz there's no clear definition?

I mean just look how Oda qualifies someone as swordman.

There's no a list of must have things to be one but there's a lot simple things to be one.

Fujitora and Shiryu being a great example.

Anyone who is at their best with a sword pretty much fits the bill for me.
Kizarus swordmanship feats are actually great. He matched a legendary swordsman.

Which is not the point. I am not asking for an objective definition, if there was a completely clear one, people would not argue over it.
I am asking for your definition, and without any attitude or ill intent mind you, just saying since this topic can get heated sometimes.

I do think Oda distinguishes between swordsman and swordsman who follow a warrior´s code/bushido or whatever you wanna call it, but question is whether that´s any relevant your definition.

When has oda ever distinguished between someone who wields a sword and someone who follows the way of the sword? Post the panels right now!

Come on man. I promised @Haoshoku id behave. Dont come at me with retarded shit.
Roger is a swordsman.
Chopper fighting smoker has nothing to do with anything.
:smithnie: But Roger was insisting always on how much the power of his words and actions of the sea ment more than fists or the blade.

Mihawk, Law, Hawkins, Zoro. Kiroshyo. Enma. They all live by the power of the blade. Their pride is in the blade. Im just saying a swordsman to me is a blade holder who prides in winning with his blade. Not his words or powers.

Yeah it´s one possibility but that begs the question, if you are not a completely useless user of it, are not most people better with a sword?
I mean sure, offensive-wise you can have far stronger attacks without a sword with devil fruits, but for most that are not completely useless with it, it´s at least a defensive option against both fellow weapon users and those without.

What does pride in the sword mean ? Apart from wado zoro doesnt give a shit about his swords as long as he has 3. Look how many he has been through or how easy he gave shusui away.
