Questions & Mysteries Why Roger îs not a swordman

It's done. A man with a supreme grade sword and no DF to compensate for.

"But Whitebeard had a top tier DF. How does Roger compensate?"

-> with high level of swordsmanship which goes way beyond what Whitebeard can to with his Bisento.

Shanks too doesn't have a DF, even lost an arm, yet competes with mastery of his blade. Wouldn't be surprised if Roger could just cut through Gura's shockwaves.

Look at Zoro’s character. That’s what I mean. Look at Mihawk’s character. Mihawk is the WSS, meaning he earned the title for what it means. It’s self explanatory. It says worlds strongest swordsman for a reason. He’s the best period with it.

Roger is a swordsman in the fact he uses a sword, but he has not proven to follow the code or consider himself devoted to the sword. Same goes to Shanks.

That’s the difference I am trying to make here. No shit they are swordsman in a literal generic sense. Anyone can pick up a damn sword. But according to Zoro’s interaction with King and how he uses the sword, and the depiction that serious swordsmen have, it’s not the same.

Declare it. Stake your claim. Neither character have claimed it. They use swords and are powerful. That’s it so far.

No, it is the focus on the character around the philosophy of the sword. As Oda depicted the characters. Shanks and Roger have not once in the story shown focus on swordsmanship alone as their path. I say path as in focus and expertise in life and ambition. Simple as that.
then by your definition
there are only two swordsmen in the series sir?

did oden focus on swordsmanship alone as his path
the scabbards? did they share that as an ambition?
are they swordsmen?

I dont think you understand you get that exposition with zoro and swordsmanship because he is infact a main character and by extension mihawk because thats what his end goal is.

Roger didn’t have black blade yet he still cave in Mihawk skull
Again swordsmen are not defined by being able to forge a black blade.no sane person here is arguing Mihawk > roger but excluding them because they didn’t forge one is rubbish.

Here are undeniable facts
1. That mihawk challenged sword masters in the verse until there was no more worthy challenger.
2. that shanks was his last rival leading to multiple duels between the two.

3. that shanks lost an arm and mihawk deemed him no longer a worthy challenger.

whether he forged a black blade or not, it’s clear to mihawk and to anyone else, he is a swordsman.
