A false positive is like a framer ability working.

A cop who investigates a townie that has been framed and gets guilty. Cop thinks he hit mafia but it's actually a false positive and he hit town.

It's like testing positive for Covid when you actually don't have covid. So it's a false positive.
I think Hex master work like that in coven

I don't know what a false positive is.
Ah, it's a classification term. Basically, a false positive is a principle that is sound by itself, but offers the potential for misleading or incorrect results. To give an easier example, when I worked in Data Security, let's say a policy was created to search for a certain code term, and every time an email was sent that contained a certain term, this email would be flagged as a breach of data. Now let's say the term was the letters "FTH". For the purpose of this example, imagine FTH indicates data that should only be sent privately, not via email.

Now, imagine there is an email that flags up as violating this policy. However, in the email message, someone types the sentence "I really wasn't sure of the correct wording to use". By itself, that sentence is harmless and shouldn't have been caught by that security policy. But if you look closer, the words "of the" are together. OFTHE = FTH. Because the letters FTH are next to each other, the policy flags it up as a breach, thinking a FTH-classified document is being leaked.

This would duly be marked as false positive. Because while it has caught something that matches the policy, the logic behind the policy isn't tight enough, so something that is harmless gets caught.

In the context of Mafia, a false positive scum tell would be a tell that should indicate scummy behaviour, but can also come from Town. Tunneling is a good example.

Long explanation there, but I hope it made sense.

Thanks for the explanation.

@Ratchet to answer you better now, sure, Odd was a false positive but that's the exact reason why I'm hesitant to scum read Law based on the same thing. Odd flipping town shows that my reasons weren't to finding scum as I originally thought. How can I lynch Law for doing the exact same thing? It doesn't make any sense.

Right, that's what I was getting it. I can accept that explanation, though I will add, there are very few scum tells that won't produce false positives at some point. Even something as clearly-defined as lying doesn't always result in a scum flip. So, your process, in my opinion, should be more "is what I'm reading as a scum tell as intrinsically scum-aligned as I think it is, or is the player themselves at fault for playing like scum".

Aye, I get you now. I'll keep it in mind for the future. Thanks for the advice.

-said I will watch the back of the competition winner
-said Frutji won and he's now my Mini Me with divine protection
-says I'll make sure Fruiji wins the game

What does that sound like to you?
Well many different things lmao. Watching someone's back can be a lookout, turning someone into a mini you a vamp. Some of those can be interpreted as a guardian angel too.

But if you're claiming BG, doubt we'll have 2 in the game, and I guess some of those can apply to the BG as well.
