He never got the chance to have prolonged 1 on 1 like Yamato but from what Zoro has shown he is perfectly capable to hold his own
Luffy got taken out of the fight quickly as he used up all his haki which means Zoro was protecting his captain while fighting 2 other yonkos with the supernovas. Of course they tanked penty of attack as we see them all beaten up bleeding in ch 1008 when Kaido finally transforms into his hybrid. Just because long period of that was off screened doesn't mean they didn't take any damage
Yamato is a weapon user just like Zoro not all Her attacks were adv CoC or adv Coa where she was targeting the inside, the damage Kaido was inflicting was visible on Yamato body if she was really dealing enough damage we would see that on Kaido too.
Kaido was just as serious against the supernovas that includes Zoro he would not combine with BM to perform hakai otherwise, we could say for very large part of Yamato fight with Kaido he was just playing with her, with the supernovas he had already given up on recruiting by the time they started fighting meanwhile he was still trying to convince Yamato to be wano guardian in the middle of their fight.
That implies he was never really trying to kill her or going all out, Kiado only started to show more serious side to him in the latest chapters if we are being honest.
I'm not overcompensating like i said earlier you are the one underselling Zoro he is already stronger and has the superior feats he will only be widening the gap after Wano.

Yamato has said 100 times she is joining. How much clearer does this need to be? But she's at best comparable to Jinbe for now. She's not Zoro/Sanji/"Wings" level.
We have 0 evidence that she can even beat King. King didn't even bother chasing after her and hired Tobi Roppo.
