I guess Roger's part of the flashback isn't over quite yet. Roger probably would have been a terrible dad. I don't think Ace would have liked him if he did survive. Roger would have been a full-time adventurer after all. Then again Luffy and Usopp also had absent fathers; so it's a common theme.
