Them having awakening makes a lot more sense, considering they were in the New World longer than Luffy. If their Haki isn't crazy, it makes sense for this to be their route.

This also gives them something Luffy doesn't yet have access to.

I do think they use their moves by the end of this chapter since the summary explicitly says that Kid turns Big Mom into a magnet. Law is probably going to mess her up the most.
