Not really. Every sword got a different history and some swords remember more epic moments and some are capable to remember about particular potent guys' deeds depending on their story.

Feeling Oden's presence can very well equate to feeling the sword's emotions and memories instead of a soul embedded inside.

Kaido could very well detect that via CoO, it doesn't necessarily have to be a living human soul. A living object is ok too.
