Kaido was probably stronger in the flashback, because he engaged in a lot of battles (vs. Moriah, vs Oden). In the past 20 years, he was only sitting around and drinking.

What about wb at age 36 being defeated along with rox by roger and garp(who needed to train 2 years later to defeat chinjao) and was still be able of matching roger 12 years later during their clash? What are the massive battles in which wb was involved to get that much stronger? We've never heard of any of such battles from wb in the manga though yet we know how much stronger wb got to be.
