This Kaido is still hot headed and doesnt care about 1 vs 1 and death , he just wanna win no matter the way.
Current Kaido is suicidal, that Kaido doesnt seem like he wanna die badly.

Maybe we shouldnt forgett that Oden was a power horse from beginn with, sailed with Whitebeard and Roger himself. Kaido, weaker than he is today, playing it safe with a Crewmate of Roger, specially when trying to not lead this Infos to f.e. Rayleigh or Whitebeard, is pretty understandable from my Point of view. Oden was no weakling back then and he was no nobody, he was known for his strength.
