Some desperate Shanks fans tried to use the "But but Haki" excuse, but that never got them far.

Reasonable fans argued and maintained the "Live by the Sword, die by the Sword" concept, which was heavily argued against by Zoro fans. It was always "If you carry a Sword, you are a Swordsman. No if and's or buts about it."

Well, the jury is back from deliberation, and it turns out, that you are not in fact a true swordsman, just because you carry a Sword.

There are in-betweens.

If you're one handed dude who has used sword in flashbacks, used sword in present, and uses sword in every single clash so far, on top of having no Devil Fruit or no special abilities of sorts, on top of once rivaling the WSS, you... kind of are a swordsman 100% unless somehow shockingly proven otherwise.

The narrative "If you use a sword, you're a swordsman" is false. But in all honesty, that narrative means fuck all for Shanks. There are a lot of far more convincing reasons if not downright evidence of Shanks being a swordsman through and through.

Unless you feel like pretending that he throws his sword away and starts kicking like Sanji as his main fighting style.

"We've known Shanks since the very first chapter but how does he actually fight?"
What did Oda mean by this?
how he fights? with his sword a swordsman
no df or u think shanks a karate man :suresure:
every time he fought he used his sword
shanks is not a lunarian that can produce fire and having an ancient zoan df
i mean mihawk is waiting for a swordsmaster stronge than shanks to show up

Twisting panels context to feed your own narrative??

King never called him a swordsman because he didn't feel like sticking to traditional means.

The context here is to use anything to win.

In below panel, king was using sword but then suddenly switched to punching zoro

It's after this zoro goes on saying - you never called yourself a swordman. Have it your way"

But the context becomes clear when zoro further says - I might be willing to BITE your throat to because I can't afford to lose"

The context here clearly is about doing anything to win the fight - using cheap tricks as well which go against swordsmanship code/theme underlying wano samurais. That's why king never called him proper swordman.

But in one piece haki is integral to swordsmanship and many of you distinguish it from swordsmanship to put shanks over mihawk which was headcannon
Exactly my point. King doesn't want to stick to traditional forms when it comes to using a Sword. Zoro's conclusion is King is not a Swordsman, just a bloodthirsty brute.

Straight from the most Traditional muthafucking Swordsman's mouth himself. :datas:

King not being a swordsman even tho he obviously uses a sword has nothing to do with haki 🗿
He could coat his sword is armament, observation, conquerors, fire, lightning, and jesus he still wouldn't be one tho

I've never once argued Shanks wasn't a Swordsman.

Not to mention what Shimotsuki Kozaburo said last chapter, a swordsman is one who masters a swords personality and bends it to his will.

why did Oda ask that question if Zoro's fandom already knows how he fights? volume 87 and Oda asks "How does he actually fight?" after drawing Shanks using a sword multiple times... I don't know bro, I wouldn't be so sure.

Because he isn't sticking to his primary fight style - swordsmanship

He can change his style just to win.

But no indication of such things when it comes to shanks whose fans created "hakiman" concept to put shanks over mihawk. But we all know haki is integral to swordsmanship

You are equating two different scenarios to prove a point which in totally false

Until shanks shows something other than his sword or a df then we talk
so far he reached for his sword every time he wanted to fight

When ace visted him he reached for his sword
When he was young always with his sword
When he challenge everyone at marineford with his sword etc
many examples
I mean why would the wss want to fight shanks? if he wasnt a swordsman
