I agree with the point, Katakuri probably don´t use his awakening because it was to slow to even keep up with Snakeman, so he must fight without awakening. Luffy was using FS aswell, using awakening would only give Luffy more time to land attacks. Katakuri need to fight in his base form, otherwise he would even get beaten up more and more.

Speaking of Katakuri I hope that we'll see him using his own version of Python (Monty Python as the fanmade chapter against the BB Pirates said).

Ryuo simply means flowing haki outside. But it's usage is different and varies - for swordsmen this implies making blade black. This was explained when we learnt about ryuma black blade.

For Luffy, it means destroying object from within which is much more difficult to learn

But as Dizzy also said it might come with a cost, I don't think that Zoro can use the blade's true power for an extended period of time as it might drains his energy and haki just like G4.
