As shown by panels Zoro's real dream is to make Luffy Pirate King instead of becoming the world's greatest swordsman. There is nothing wrong with that. That is what Ace wanted to do with Whitebeard. It just feels vain to have zoro say that he will become the world's greatest swordsman. I wish a man devouted to his sword would manage to do that. Zoro is such an underwhelming swordsman that it feels kind of out of place to have Zoro become the World's Greatest Swordsman.

I wish there was a greatest vice captain title :'(

Zoro is the main character of swordsmanship in one piece which means he is the representative for everything noteworthy to mention in regarding to swords in one piece.

Zoro goes by a code of honor in which he has broken it many times. Zoro sacrificed his highest ambition for luffy which now becoming the world's greatest swordsman(which he vowed to in his dead friend's death bed btw) to Zoro is secondary. Zoro's main goal is to fight the second strongest pirate in the opposite crew WHICH IS FINE. You can say that he wanted to fight Kaido but he failed so in the end he got a lot of unfulfilled ambitions.

Anyhow Zoro as a kid wanted for his name to reach heavens. ZOro will reach the heavens as the vice-captain of the pirate king's crew not neccessarily as the world's greatest swordsman more so. Roger was pirate king and the world's greatest swordsman for example.

I do not have an immediate answer for this question since even oda epithet for zoro is Pirate Hunter. I would expect zoro to be a little more fascinated with swordsmanship and beat some people that were known for their swordsmanship but to my knowledge no swordsmen with some kind of pedigree have been beat by zoro. The only 2 swordsmen who had a pedigree that zoro fought were Ryuuma(with brook's shadow so technically he fought brook) and Mihawk.


Zoro is not a very alluring swordsman let's say. He is more of a fighter.

I'm confused with what you mean. Zoro has standards he's placed on himself. If he can't save his captain he isn't worthy of WSS. If he values his own pride over his strength he doesn't deserve to be WSS, etc. Luffy places these standards on himself every arc as well, that doesn't mean his dream was actually to save alabasta or Wano or even to save Robin or Sanji. These are things he should have to do, otherwise his dream is meaningless. He could have easily ignored irrelevant parts of his journey, as technically becoming the pirate king should be a higher priority than doing what he considers right, he could have valued his crew's progress to put his dream before anything else, but who'd want that? Luffy admitted if he knew what the treasure/secrets of the one piece were, he'd give up his dream. Does that make him vain?

Nah i wish someone who was more interested in swordsmanship was a bit more highlighted. Zoro is better vice-captain/crewmate than a swordsman that is what I'm saying. Even when people speak of zoro they speak about his strength and question the ability of him not being a captain. There isn't really an allure for Zoro as a swordsman if it make sense. EVen law is quoted talking about swordsmanship more than zoro post timeskip

He's a good swordsman because he'll beat anyone, with just swords. You could pull a machine gun on him, put a buzzsaw into his stomach, rain shuriken, crush him with gravity, or drop him into a warzone surrounded by mutants, and he'll come out on top without any gimmick, just a weapon anyone could use if they had the discipline.

Great thing about Strawhats is that each one of them is putting their dreams aside for others. And Luffy was the first. He is the first giving up his dream for his nakamas, so it's only natural for them to retribute. That's why they are friends and not simply captain and subordinates.

Again there is a difference between protecting something and completing your dream. If zoro's place is to fight the no 2 of every crew every arc that does not make him really chase his dream when there are other swordsmen who luffy vows to fight like big mom and shanks. You can say zoro is getting stronger by beating them but by then jumping from no2s of every opposing crew who are exponentially weaker than the captain leads to him beating mihawk of course it makes the jump very cheap.

Zoro was against a swordsman like Issho/Fujitora and luffy told him basically Back off this guy is mine. Even luffy pooped on Zoro's pride if zoro has one.
