Character Discussion Rate Luffy As a Protagonist

Fate, destiny and freedom are core themes of one piece since the beginning. The moment Luffy escaped death in loguetown heavily implies this. People started comparing him with roger since then.
Luffy character is fine as he is mature enough what needs to be done and won't whine like a bitch when things doesn't go his way. The problem is Oda ruining him against fodder characters in order to bring unnecessary underdog undertone and also fake out drama such as losing thrice against Kaidou, one of which is off paneled, and 10 minutes G4 shit since Dressrosa. No improvement on that front.

You just gave me instances in pretimeskip which make post look even worse. Logtown he smile and accepted depth which adds depth to his character.

I think Luffy is a great "shounen" protagonist, very likable, hilarious, strong-willed, badass, etc. so like a 8/10 for me but that's how I view him prior to Onigashima. I really dislike the "messiah"/"chosen one/special devil fruit" direction Oda has decided to go with him on Wano and also how disgusting his plot armor has been at times in this arc. The bit where he fell into the ocean and was saved by voice of all tings and then this mofo was still telling Momo he'd defo beat Kaido whilst drowning was particularly filthy. At that point Kaido never stood a chance against him. Made me feel like "he's destined to win" which was a truly disgusting feeling and made me stop rooting for him against Kaido at some point. I mean Luffy is the MC, so there is an expectation that he'd win his boss fights but the Kaido ting was just disgusting.

You don't talk like this if you haven't skipped WCI. Luffy handled pedro death way better than he would have pre skip. He didn't fight back against Sanji knowing well about Sanji and matured enough to understand his struggle without even Sanji telling him. Infact removing Katakuri the biggest threat from the ship and giving assurance to his demoralized crewmates was the best moment in WCI. Similar thing happened in chapter 949 like someone said in the above post where Luffy has shown his leader capabilities. Wano being too long made people forgotten these moments. Don't mistake panel time with focus. Yeah, agree with your reasoning about Luffy associate with nika, worst thing Oda can do. Joyboy is fine because it is looking more of a will than person.

this part I agree...this was written as if to remove Luffy from the plot for sometime and give Yamato her 1 vs 1 against Kaido...this time it was never felt like Luffy lost because this was offpaneled....that telepathic thing was cringeworthy...Oda should have written in another way to bring Luffy out of ocean
Wano had a death that created tension as well, difference is Wano has high expectations and failed to meet them, again another argument for another day.

Luffy still accept death. He never care about dying as long as it was for his dream or to protect something that matters for him.
He just can't accept his friend to dies like he couldn't accept Sabo or Ace to die, he was also ready to fight Mihawk just to save Zoro (when he tought Zoro will die) despite Zoro accepted to die if he lose and so on...
Which one ? You will probably use gag moments...

This doesn't come from Wa No. He's the choosen one since Loguetown when he smiled during his execution, he even have the SH of a Younko who was Gol D Roger's one
It's just because we are close to the end so we learn more stuffs about that.
Nothing confirmed about that but he reached the Younko level only because of his creativity and Haki now he will fight BB (who is more abnormal) and possibly Im. He is also one of the few barehanded fighters which is a disadvantage in OP
It will be worse to justify Luffy defeating BB (who have two of the strongest DF) with just Haki+awakening
