He will awaken his fruit this should be pretty clear at this point. We will get a Kaido FB, only for it to end and realize Luffy has not taken fully damage because his fruit has awakened.
We didn't even get the Luffy vs Kaido chapter, the road Oda chose is pretty clear here.
