Luffy manifested rubber properties BEFORE being aware of the name (they grabbed his hand and his whole arm stretched) so at the very least strething was a normal property.

That could be just him as a kid exaggerating the situation in his head, childishly thinking his limbs would fall off or stretch out of shape. And since reality warping powers are expansive and general, stretching would fit right under such a power.

Yeah which is dumb as fuck. Limitations are what make characters great. Good writing is how you overcome those limitations.

This is Oda essentially saying "fuck it" to good writing. He's a cow, but also a dog, but also made of rubber, but it's not really rubber. Just gives him freedom to asspull anything.
