The most obvious issue with this chapter by far is the Gorosei saying “we’ve been trying so hard to get the fruit back” when frankly that’s obviously not true, a little insulting that Oda would write it, and arguably a major plot hole.

If Luffy’s awakening is straight up reality warping and not just shaping his body how he wants and turning the environment into rubber than that’s really really bad.

From the looks of it, Luffy comes up with new attacks or modes on a whim with learning thru pain or something like that. He learned Gear 2 after a beatdown, he learned Gear 4 after losing Ace and etc. It looks a lot of times like Luffy awakens his fruit more and more based off how much he wants something new.

I'm not sure man. For how long Luffy had his fruit before going onto his journey I would say he was somewhat creative but pretty lame with it because before Gears and attacks like Red Hawk and etc he was just stretching which isn't too impressive.

Oda didnt finish his homework on explaining Luffy's struggle and creative process on becoming stronger, yea thats for sure i agree. I think Gears is the proof of his own creative process instead of the fruit carrying him. Which is why this Nika Awakening felt like a free powerup, taken-for-granted blessing for MC, destiny chosen one stuff and so on, instead of a satisfying reward for Luffy's struggle-dedication-creativity etc surpassing all others. I hope Oda explain further that its a reward for Luffy's effort all this time tho, instead of pure chosen one.

Oda didnt finish his homework on explaining Luffy's struggle and creative process on becoming stronger, yea thats for sure i agree. I think Gears is the proof of his own creative process instead of the fruit carrying him. Which is why this Nika Awakening felt like a free powerup, taken-for-granted blessing for MC, destiny chosen one stuff and so on, instead of a satisfying reward for Luffy's struggle-dedication-creativity etc surpassing all others. I hope Oda explain further that its a reward for Luffy's effort all this time tho, instead of pure chosen one.

The problems with Gears creativity is that it always happened after a major beatdown which if you think about it might fall into "asspull" territory. That's not only with his DF. Luffy learned advanced conqueror's coating after tanking attack with his dick: "Oh yes! Now I understand the concept"

Soo far Zoro is the ONLY character in the monster trio that worked for his strenght, but they cant cope with that soo they come up with some Oden sword haki BS.

At least Zoros “magic sword” and Sanjis “bullshit Genetics” were just caveats to their true power ups, Zoro upgrading his 3 Swors Style and Sanji upgrading his Diable Jambe. Both well established abilities of the two.

I don't feel like this Toon Force awakening is a free powerup at all, Luffy had to ""die"" and awaken his fruit to get this new Gear 5 mode

DJ is also due to his genetics, the passion stuff is just bullshit as no normal human can ignite their leg with emotions in the OP world, only Sanji, who coincidentaly have germa genes who can summon shit like lightning out of their own bodies.

But at least as you said that is a well stablished character trait since way before TS, this Nika shit is just complete garbage that Oda just pulled out of his asshole....

I wouldnt mind it nearly as much if it was a simple PU not some reality bend BS that turns him and his enemies in looney tunes.

Yes. He didn't. Luffy understood the concept of FS and advCoC on a whim in the midst of battle. He didn't train for weeks. The only power-up where he actively trained for it was advCoA ( Ryuo ).

Yea i know thats why i think Oda should explain this asspull, like at least if he occasionally shows how Luffy's mind works during a decisive fight "hey wait whats he doin with his haki...can i do it as well...how about harmonizing with rubber? Can i conquer the air with my CoC? Wait let me rubberize the air...what about my body...can i bounce back elements? What is an element exactly...wait whats this...my conqueror infusion just touched a strange mystery godlike dimension, let me focus it more on my fingertips..." and so on, gradually, becoming more and more creative...while other can't even dream of having such a creative and adaptable style of becoming stronger...then i think it can be Oda's redemption in storytelling regarding Luffy's power progression.

Since Oda didnt explain how someone can awaken, it become a question mark...and since Nika2 Fruit is so overpowered, it becomes "oh Luffy only beat Kaidou because he has that fruit which is obviously superior to any fruit in the world" That kinda thing

I think i read in some SBS that Oda intentionally doesn't give Luffy thought bubbles because Luffy acts before he thinks.
