So he is imparting that elasticity into surroundings - perhaps this is the reason why he was able to go through kaido's face and goofy reaction from others.

But awakening never effect the opponent, in case Luffy power effects even the others.
The punch go through Kaido, like how Law used kroom to go through BM head, Kaido didn´t even had a hole in the moment when Luffy hand was in his head.

I love this too! Every other manga has serious and badass fights against their strongest opponents and oda has the balls to do it different. Of course it’s strange but it’s a very cool way.
