If Kaido dies now, then I think Zoro's moment of scarring Kaido devalues. I mean, why give someone a permanent scar if they are gonna be dead by the end of the arc anyway?
One could argue that "ZKK" is more hyped than just giving Kaido a scar, which I agree. But, then again, why write that first scene in the first place? Was it just something that Oda HAD to draw because he made some checklist of stuff he wanted to draw at some point without caring so much about being cohesive? Know what I mean?

If giving Kaido a permanent scar is such a big deal, then Kaido should live for his scar to be shown throughout the places he go and it adds to Zoro's notoriety "yo, that swordsman was able to give Kaido a permanent scar! Only a single other person in history was able to do that! So cool!"
If he kills Kaido, I just don't see him getting the credit for it storywise. It's Luffy the one challenging Kaido. So if Zoro kills Kaido, but Luffy gets the credit, then no one will know about the scar and he loses both "feats".
I believe the only reason Oda gave Zoro this feat is to give him a scene where he can shine and then let Luffy take over.
It's enough that Zoro's scar is potentially permanently visible and is acknowledged by Kaido.
I doubt that Oda wasn't considering Kaido's defeat/death when he made Zoro scar him.
It feels good for Oda but to me, it doesn't make much sense and feels like a cheap excuse to give Zoro feats. It's one of these "people say..." "xyz is considered as..." "this and that counts as...." things, you know. We have that so much in One Piece.

The point Oda wants to make here is that Zoro is strong enough to scar the so called strongest creature in the world. It's about Zoro's strength level compared to Kaido, as well to Oden, that matters here, not Kaido actually carrying that scar around with him for years to come.

. But the thing is...Kaido WANTS to die because it counts as a "win" to him. Die in glorious battle or whatever. So I also don't like the idea of having ZKK happen in a way that would legit satisfy Kaido.
Rewarding the dude who enslaved an entire country for decades looks dumb.
I smell a Vagabond plot incoming. Kaido is a suicidal, battle crazy madman, like Musashi in the beginning of the series.
Either Kaido really gets captured by the marines. Or he undergoes a personality change, mends his ways and turns religious.
In his case, he will become a follower of Sun God Nika aka Joyboy aka Luffy.

He wanted to be Joyboy himself and when he realises all his hopes and dreams are in fact represented by Luffy, he will become his cheerleader.
Knowing Oda, the cheerleader plot is not too far out of the realm of possibility.
Or maybe he first gets captured my the marines and eos gets freed by Yamato, who forgives him for his transgressions, declares that she actually loves him and then Kaido and the remainder of the Beast Pirates become Luffy's followers as part of the Grand Fleet.

If there's a villian that can die, it's Kaidou. He's been talking about death like there's no tommorow ever since his introduction. His introduction is basically 2 myths: unbeatable 1v1, and can't die, and both will get debunked.
Not saying Zoro will kill him or anything. It's just the possibility of having a villian die is at its highest with Kaido.
Everything has been set up perfectly for Kaido's death. It's up to Oda if he has the balls to do it.

My complaint is more about how Oda writes Wano arc with a checklist by his side. Instead of creating a cohesive narrative with events that have a more meaningful impact throughout the story, he just seems to write hype shit on the go and don't consider their implications at all. Not complaining about the "feats" themselves.

You know why I insisted on the "Black Hair Sanji" thing? Because, with the germa modifications awakening, it felt like a natural progression for the character to go through a moment of complete change, and, during this moment, asserting the values that the character himself wishes to preserve. If Sanji had lost his emotions at some point, him going through a moment of "snapping back to reality" and overcoming "ice heart" through sheer emotional power, that fuels his flames, either by having some nakama moment with another SH, or the Osome check or whatever, then it would have felt way more impactful then the "nah, just dont use the suit anymore then you're fine. Remember that we had a scene of him calling Zoro and asking Zoro to kill him if he ever "joined the dark side". All of that build up was completely thrown away the moment he learned that Queen was the one who attacked Osome.
An entire cool and emotional character moment completely tossed aside and rushed for no reason at all.
That entire development and Raid Suit could have been replaced by Sanji fighting Queen and saying some cheesy shit as "my flames will burn even hotter now! I won't lose to scum like you, Queen!" and then he goes from Super Sayan 1 (normal Diable Jambe) to Super Sayan 2 (Ifrit Jambe).

I don't like authors who play the "GOTCHA!" game. It's the reason I despise The Last Jedi movie. A movie COMPLETELY built on the "GOTCHA!" trope. "subvert expectations" by simply trolling readers is shitty as fuck.

I play a LOT of DnD's. I've played as a single character, multiple characters, I've been a dungeon master, had different types of dm's. MY experience with it has really built what I enjoy on a narrative. A progression that FEELS natural. Sometimes the events are scripted, but the narrator makes such a good job sometimes in connection the events, that even scripted events feel like a natural progression. Which also opens my mind to developments of stories that I don't even enjoy.
I hate wano. I hate it with a passion. But, even hating it as whole doesn't stop me from enjoying a few sequences here and there. I don't just toss everything away. Which is why, despite not believing or liking the ZKK idea very much, I'm totally OPEN for it to happen, and also be OPEN to actually LIKE IT, depending on how it happens.
But when some events happen, I want them to pay off. I want to "savor them". Which is why I don't like how the "scar" happened.
Having it IN THE MIDDLE of the SAME CHAPTER when Luffy awakens ADV. COC, was a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE disrespect for Zoro. I wanted the "scar" to be an "end of chapter" thing. I wanted to SAVOR that moment. But, in the next page, Luffy unlocking a new PU just completely overshadows that moment to me. I thought that was legit retarded by Oda. So, having Zoro kill Kaido would just be the nail in the coffin for that moment. That's my take on why I'm not a ZKK-enthusiast.

Sry for the long post. Decided to channel my inner @Ghostly Reflections for a change.

He has already been defeated 7 times tho, death would be way too fulfilling for him, at least not right here, later on it can happen, maybe.

I fully agree with you.
The cheap hype moment writing has been around for quite some time now and it's bothering me just as much as it bothers you.
I did not attempt to defend Oda's writing decisions in my previous post but merely trying to elaborate what I think his intentions are.

Oda lost his touch, he took what elements of his earlier writing were beloved by himself and appreciated by the fans and drove them up to eleven, now using them for these cheap hype moments.

There are:
  • dramatic statements during fights such as "I won't lose to scum like you" "my flames burn even hotter/I even become the king of hell/a monster/demon" and ofc "I WILL BECOME THE PIRATE KING"
  • Reactions of fodder characters and their exclamations / praise and worship of the kewl main characters

  • Over the top "lOYaLTy" declarations in the form of nakama powers/"i'Ll dO eVerYtHinG fOr mY CaPTaiN" confidence boosts
  • "The battle is so much fun"/manly battles
  • Crazy reaction faces of bystanders or allies, each of them getting the same expression (huh face, the recent "eyes popping out" face etc...)
  • Female characters' boob/alluded nudity scenes and panty/nosebleed jokes
  • Crazy and ridiculous character designs
  • "EVeRyThING GeTs DeStrOyED". Catastrophic scenarios with hopeless, panicking citizens. Usually combined with mass destructions of buildings and infrastructure. Followed by the resolve to build everything back up as a community experience

What did I miss?
