Character Discussion Why did Oda include Marco in Wano?

He needed a strong character to keep the Calamities occupied, specifically King and Queen, until their main matchups began since he needed Zoro on the Rooftop for Roofpiece and Sanji with Black Maria for that character moment between Sanji & Robin. Later on, he changed Queen's matchup to Monster Point Chopper until Sanji arrived as Marco had a duel with King where he gassed out before Zoro arrived. Marco is also the only character in the series with the ability to regenerate entire body parts, his ability is the best suited for stalling in the entire series (An Admiral needed seastone cuffs to deal with him quickly, a Yonkou outright admitted to not have the soul weapons needed to deal with him quickly). He is the best suited to stall two characters who are in the same generic level as him.

Honestly as a youngster, I couldn't figure out the purpose for Skypiea in the story.

But nowadays I don't need much to be spelled out for me so I'm just wincing my way through dumbass threads until the spoilers drop.
You can call this a dumbass thread, but I really find these discussions to be way more interesting than the 9000th powerscaling and zoro-sanji post

I guess Oda wanted to give him some shine after all the drama he went through, it was probably both a plot fitting choice and an emotional choice. Helping out the crew of the man that helped rescuing Ace and also deal with other yonko crews keeping the legacy of Whitebeard.

He hasn't done anything particularly noteworthy to justify his particular presence.
Uuuh... yes he did. He stopped the Big Mom pirates, weakened Big Mom temporarily, on the performance floor he stopped the plague virus and helped Zoro get past King and Queen, stopped the two calamities from slaughtering the mid trio and thousands of samurai then potentially supporting Kaido on the roof, stalled for Zoro to recover, saved Nami against Kaido. The flashback of Ace was also important lore to give more depth to Yamato's and Ace's bond.

It's the little things that he could all do on his own without Oda having to write 15 other asspulls to justify the alliance winning. And of course fanservice too but that applies to every side character anyway. Most importantly though is what one of the cp0 members said tho. "If the calamities don't fall this war will be decided" and that was Marco's biggest role summed up in 1 sentence. He made sure the calamities would be held off instead of tilting the scales. He was basically a balancer and healer in one.

Its kinda obvious Oda used him to hype Zoro and Sanji's growth.

You have Whitebeard's right hand calling Luffy's wings "stars that are about to take the stage"

Not only by placing King and Queen in the same level, but by losing to them without accomplishing anything other than stall them and buy time for Zoro and Sanji to come

Simple. If Marco wasn't in Wano, he will never send Zoro to the roof and therefore, we will never get Zoro vs Kaido like many has predicted. That's the only W for Marco in this arc which people often overlooked.

The longer reason would be that Marco is representing the stepping stone for the new generation pirates to surpass him.
