Funny thing is, those naive enough to think Kidd isn't/won't be relevant are going to hide their frustration behind Oda's poor writing when proven wrong.
Or straight up say it makes no sense.
But, ngl, I'm totally down for it.

Difference between Luffy and Kid and all these guys is that the other MCs actually had very serious fights with their rivals.
Luffy and Kid have never fought and there’s no point ever making them do so because Oda’s made it clear that Luffy is in a different weightclass.
Had Kid been an arc antagonist before Wano who had pushed Luffy to his limits then chances are most people would look on him with a lot more respect.

No that's not the reason but an conclusion that you made up to justify why kid can't compete with Luffy. Whether kid fights Luffy or not all depends on how the story is going to go moving forward.
Kid is not here in this story to push Luffy to his limits neither is the opposite in vice versa but to break his own limits.

There’s no path in the story that leads to Luffy vs Kid. Oda’s made it clear that Luffy shits all over him. He’s a stronger fighter, he’s got a better crew, he’s a more successful pirate.
Going into a fight Luffy needs to be at a disadvantage, an underdog, to make him grow, so the reader can root for him and enjoy his victory. Kid cannot meet those conditions. Everyone knows Luffy is stronger than him before a punch is thrown.
The only way for Luffy vs Kid to happen is to really shit on Kid and make Luffy horribly nerfed before the fight even begins. That’s not going to happen either, because Oda wants Kid to come across as the edgier anti-hero counterpart to Luffy that people can still root for. Not a scumbag taking advantage of our hero in a moment of weakness because Kid can’t win the fight otherwise.

Oda is a master of the "tell, not show". Even If he failled miserably in portray Kidd and Law as pirates in the same level as Luffy, you can be certain that both of them will still be relevant after Wano as the leading pirates of the new era.
Thats why no matter how much people keep saying shit like "Kidd was the worst in the rooftop" wont change shit about him being more important to the One Piece world than other strong dudes currently fighting in Onigashima (Zoro, Sanji, Marco, etc)

Do you realize that Kidd would never side with Luffy without confronting him and be defeated by him in a fight?
And that has to happen at some point (Final War) even tho Kidd Pirates will not be part of the Grand Fleet but just detached allies.

It's not a matter if Luffy is stronger than kid or not. And no Luffy isn't physically more powerful than kid without haki with that punch if anything it only proves kid already has more physical strength than Luffy natural.
If anything it the exact opposite and kid has to nerf himself so Luffy could stand a chance to begin with.
Kid is not a counterpart to Luffy if anything he just a more realistic kind of pirate.

Kidd is nowhere as important as sasuke or vegeta not has even a fraction of screen time these two character have. Sure he is a rival but so is everyone who wants to become PK

Did Kid and Luffy have a fight in the Auction House before they teamed up outside? Did I miss a Luffy vs Kid fight in Udon where Luffy beatup Kid and forced him to join the alliance?
There is zero need for Luffy to beat Kid for Kid to join up with him, because that’s literally the only relevant thing Kid has done and it’s never need a fight between the two.
(Did Kid also beat Apoo and Hawkins before they made an alliance, by the way?)

Or Lufy getting to Laugh Tale, coming out and saying “my god, I can’t win without Kid, I’m going to need to try and get him to join” and Kid refuses unless Luffy beats him?

Luffy is an outright superior fighter to Kid in every single aspect. Luffy hits harder and faster. Luffy has vastly superior Haki. Luffy is more mobile. Luffy can tank and endure more. Luffy has far better CQC skills. Luffy’s awakening shits on Kid’s awakening.
