I guess my question is - why can you and purple both win with town, essentially have the town wincon, but not be town?

I suppose it just makes sense flavor wise for there to be a million different factions that can interact with each other to meet different ends. As for myself, I suppose Varys doesn't make sense to really be allied with anyone but he's also not a bad guy and considers all he does for the good of the realm, so here we are.
