Character Discussion Kaido is the worst antagonist in the entire series and his "backstory" is objectively awful

when villains like Wapol, Hody Jones and Ceaser Clown exist the fact this thread even exists is just stupid.
They are properly motivated. Maybe Wapol is a bit clownish for shits and giggle but the rest of those in that list are okay villains. Hody vendetta vs humans is understandable, Clown is a pawn to Doffy, Kaido and BM and his research is something interesting.
Kaido place in the prophecy seems forced tbh. It's not like he is a Celestial Dragon or a Rouge D for him to have a date with Destiny (Joy Boy). He is just another new world muscle from all indications.
Hopefully Oda will flesh out the flashback better. Wouldn't be surprised if Kaido was a pawn of the old facing changing hag who could even have more sinister motives .

The villain who's been hyped for 10 years only gets 4 pages of flashback:crazwhat:
Yep it was a good choice from Oda not to make that too long given how long this arc lasted but the fact he chose to make Tama plot so much bigger instead is very telling imo

Vodka Kingdom seems like no coincidence

Alcohol addiction is bad and it negatively shaped this man :josad: Although the drunk mode was portrayed to make him more potent

What the FUCK Oda.

That trash backstory in 1049 was literally a knock off Douglas Bullet backstory. AND DOUGLAS BULLET DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A GOOD BACKSTORY.

This man literally gave us an entire filler chapter in 1048 and then only FOUR PAGES of backstory for the most important arc antagonist in the entire series up until this point.

I can't believe this is what all of post time skip has been building towards, it's so bad.

:whitepress:
Not the worst, but there are at least 3 antagonists/villains with a better backstory than his

Kinda underwhelming if you consider what he should rapresent in the narrative

Legit. Flashbacks were never the benchmark to rate how well an antagonist is written, if a certain antagonist was so bad that you would reluctantly wait for Oda to show their backstory in hope to change your mind, it simply means said antagonist was never good in first place.
It still amuses me till this day that some people were requesting to wait for a backstory for Kaido before judging him as a character…or even that just getting one would somehow make him the best antagonist.

I wouldn't be surprised if Oda gave Kaido such a rushed and lackluster backstory because a good one would involve revealing information that he still wants to keep secret for mo reason. We still don't know why Kaido thinks the way he does...why does Kaido think everyone is only equal in war? Why does Kaido want to be the strongest? Why is Kaido interested in joyboy? Nothing...

Inaccurate as fuck. Shouldn't Akainu be on the grill?

What we got with Kaido is not realy flashback, it's just Kaido remembering bits and pieces that lead him to this moment. It was his life flashing in front of his eyes. For me it was there to add sense of finality.

Hody actually had a real character and a coherent theme. He was all about how racism spirals out of control from generation to generation, and why it’s important for people to eliminate small-minded thinking before it manifests into something truly dangerous.

Hody actually had a real backstory and consistent character
Hody went from being an extremist to trying to destroy Fishman Island . Oda didn't even try to be subtle and made a complex issue black and white
