Current Events Why did Kidd join the alliance? What made him change his mind?

#1
I've been thinking about it and I honestly can't think of a good, plausible and reasonable explanation as to why Kidd went from "f*ck alliances, I'm gonna do my own thing", to being shown seemingly teaming up with Luffy and Law at the end of 974.

Do you think they're properly allied? Or is it just temporary? Have they come to an agreement, or are they just on their way to Onigashima and have a common enemy?

Common enemy, Kid is someone who pays his debts, but he has to admit to himself he can´t do it alone
Well, if that is in fact the case, I really hope we get some internal conflict from Kid where he struggles to believe in Law/Luffy. He definitely knows he cannot do everything alone, he tried the alliance shit before, but that made him lose all trust. Did he just magically manage to have faith in Luffy lol?

It´s not really a matter of trust to be honest, since Kid actually respects Luffy at least, it was already clear in Shabondy and post-war stuff, but more keeping his selfishness and bratty attitude in check.

Yeah, I guess so, he should still be portrayed as this overly cautious and wary individual that values his own goal over everything else. Hopefully Luffy's plot armour doesn't jeopardise Kidd's character.

It should definitely be addressed, but no reason to make a big issue out of it to be honest, Kaidou is such an overwhelming enemy that it would be much more stupid if everyone tries to do his own thing.

Even someone as selfish and unreasonable as Luffy managed to work with Crocodile for a common goal.
Great point! Definitely not an issue at all at the moment, just hope it's cleared up so Kidd's character stays in cohesion. I feel like Oda sometimes struggles with character continuity.

He didnt join prior kanjuro traitor reveal
Since he doesnt know about samurai stuff and luffy didnt know Kidd will show up.

He didn't officially join, I think he knows he doesn't stand a chance alone with just his crew.
So if he attacks in the same time as the alliance he can actually do something more than just get his ass beaten again.

Kid never changed his mind.

Luffy asked Kid to join the alliance and Kid said Luffy's crazy because Kid has been in alliance with:
  • Hawkins
  • Apoo
And they more or less betrayed him.

So he told Luffy he's crazy for even asking him.

Kid was never going to run away, he was actually planning to take down Kaido too as he said when Luffy first arrived in the prison.

As kid said... "We Do Things Our Own Way".

It's just coincidence Kid has shown up which is why Luffy is surprised he's here. He just wasn't expecting to see Kid. Kid always had every intention to fight Kaido.

It's just coincidence and a common enemy. This is a common thing in One Piece.

Luffy arrived just a day before Bege wanted to assassinate Big Mom, how convenient right?

Luffy arrived at Dressrosa when:
  • RA were there
  • People from different countries in the Colosseum trying to take down Joker
  • Fujitora
How convenient right? It's just one of those things. Plot convenience.

What are you talking about? Did you read the chapter. Kidd was just going the same way the alliance was going. Kidd said he almost destroyed the Samurais back there because they were in his way. He not in any alliance, he just told Luffy he wasn't making them take all the credit.
