I'm guessing it was caused by losing Xebec, Whitebeard and Oden but idk. Also boredom from being too strong.
But why didn't he just go to Marineford anyway then or anytime and raise hell?
Why just sit in his territory mostly?
He hasn't gone after Mihawk who could pose a major threat to him at least and provide him a glorious fight like Oden did too.
But he also never chose to free Oden and fight him again, chose to let him dance for 5 years and be executed instead.
Why did he even cooperate with Orochi for decades? Did Higurashi convince Kaido that much/easily?
I don't think Kaido really wants to die except he envies Odens and WBs deaths and legacies and fears he's gonna die censored by the WG like Xebec was or at least forgotten.
Hiriluk said men truly die when they are forgotten. There's a IRL saying that people die twice, once when they die literally and twice when they are forgotten.
If Kaido is the "last oni" especially as Yamato hates her heritage too, then he's probably worried about his race going extinct and being forgotten too.
He probably keeps Onigashima as his tribute and reminder of his ancestor Oars SR/The 1st as @ArturCantSpeakJapanese posted about recently.
Onigashima has a true unknown name after all ofc. Unless Oda is abandoning that plotline too like others as Kaidos flashback didn't show or even mention a single Oni and we don't know why be lols so different to Oars too.
Plus there's "Kaidos favourite island", a winter one which we don't know anything about but I suspect it's the freezing country that Oars died in, the land of villains and where Moria probs got Oars body from too. I think Kaido probably killed Morias crew over this too. But I'm surprised Moria didn't get killed or even hunted down and slaughtered by Kaido then.
I think that freezing country is the OP version of Niflheim and may be at Elbaf then. Land of giants, BM is from there, Kaido is at least partially an ancient giant, (Oni), Kaido is Russian apparently and his full name is unknown too.
Niflheim ("Land of Mists") is the realm of ice and cold in Norse mythology, whose frigid environs provide a final resting place for the dishonored dead. Hel, the grim giantess whose rules over the deceased, also makes her home here.
Imu has a frozen tomb area and might be Hel potentially? Or someone at Elbaf? I suspected Imu may be a frost giant and even Ymir and they have Yggradssil which could be the DF tree?
I suspect Elbaf may have an Asgard type sky island reached by that giant beanstalk and thus a reserve to "Jack (har har) And the Giant Beanstalk" too.
I really hope Oda plays on the Fables aspect too.
Shanks crew are themed around drinks, we had a Gin before, a Scotch, Kaido is from Vodka island and you can have drinks "on the Rocks" too, hmmm....

Yh hes killed Shalnark and Kortopi before boarding the Black Whale. We still however havent seen him in the Succession War arc once. However we know that hes hiding somewhere within the Black Whale and the troupe are hunting him down. People are saying hes in disguise as one of the princes bodyguards….and hes currently chilling with Kurapika.
Me personally I think he will ally with Kurapika and they will start killing the spiders together.
