Nah dosen't make sense and doesn't follow occam's razor.
How would one conclude that sanji and Zoro's value is equal if they aren't referring to the same skill fighting power? Why wouldn't nami or herself be one of the wings?
Also the objective difference when we were explicitly given power levels for sanji and Zoro's opponents was less than 1 percent which lines up nicely with my conclusion.
Also I notice how this value theory only came to prominence after the translators proved every zorofanboy wrong about zoro not being one of the wings when sanji fans and any normal reader of OP instantly knew zoro was the other wing without needing to be told which implies the zoro fanboys just move on to the next cope after being proven wrong again and again.
Given the terrible track record of zorofanboys, the potrayal given in the manga and context of the motivation of many people who hold the same theory as you I find my conclusion is far more based in reality.
Yeah, what you said is correct. Often times, when looking into One Piece related stuff, the simplest and most obvious answer is the real truth. Especially when OP is a shounen manga, it's for casual readers too.
The answer could just be "they have the same strength". This is simple and correct answer. But people forgot that the Wings title isn't Black Leg title or Pirate Hunter title.
The Wings title isn't about Zoro and Sanji individually. It's about their connection to Luffy.
For this Wings stuff, let's look at the facts first.
1. Wings is a mobility organ. Literally and figuratively, it is used as a means to achieve something.
2. Wings are organ that comes in a pair, which means it is equal/same/balanced.
3. There is a slight difference in strength between Zoro and Sanji (doesn't matter if it's 1% or 10%)
4. Robin used Sanji as the introduction of the Wings term/title.
5. Title/nickname/epithet/etc are obtained through achievement/comes with actual proof
We all agree on those things because it's common sense and facts. Now, let's look at the case on point:
- Wings are supposed to be equal, you can't have a wide wing on the left and long wing on the right.
- Since Wings are equal, but Zoro and Sanji have a slight difference in strength, then it cannot be the MAIN reason.
- The Wings in question refer to "Pirate King" wings. Which means it is not about Zoro's and Sanji's OWN thing, but THEIR thing FOR Luffy.
- So, Wings must refer to what they have done to get Luffy into becoming a Pirate King.
- Zoro helps Luffy purely by strength. Let's say it gives him 100 contribution value.
- Sanji helps Luffy not just by strength, but via cooking/stealth/save/etc. Let's say, due to his lower strength, he only gets 90 contribution value. The 10 value (or more) is due to his cooking, stealth, etc contribution.
-
Sanji can even be said to have contribute more than Zoro. That's why he is used as the introduction to the Wings title.
The Wings is Luffy's biggest method/help to become a Pirate King from his journey as a mere East Blue rookie.
So the Wings are people who is always there since the start.
It is not Usopp or Nami as one of the Wings because the path of Pirate King is a path of power, and Zoro Sanji is stronger than them.
Zoro and Sanji, not only stronger than Usopp Nami, they both also contribute more during the course of the journey.
So, yes. Using simple answer, purely based on Strength, Zoro and Sanji is the Wings.
But on the other hand, based on contribution, Zoro and Sanji is the Wings.
Besides, if Wings is about strength ONLY, why not introduced it via Zoro?
