Even Momonosuke is a better choice than Carrot. Usopp is already a pseudo lookout (its a completely irrelevant job to give to someone else). Almost every available job that Yamato can take up is irrelevant tho with the exception of Apprentice. Since Kaido was an Apprentice on the Rocks', its not a huge leap of faith to say that Yamato will be an Apprentice of the Straw Hats (its really weird, but whatever the author will devise is final). The more substantive roles are as Log Keep or Brewer (this would give Artur an immeasurable amount of clout and credibility). I still on the fence if its important to even have a role this late into the story.

Let´s face it: There may have been a point when Oda was thinking about making Carrot a nakama but it is so obvious to me that he made his decision against it quite a time ago. Normally all of the crew members joined at the end of the arc they appeared in first, with Jinbei (and MAYBE Vivi) as only exception and this was because he had good reasons storywise. Either he feels when a character would fit in pretty soon or he knows when - like in Carrot´s case - it wouldn´t work out.

Let´s face it: There may have been a point when Oda was thinking about making Carrot a nakama but it is so obvious to me that he made his decision against it quite a time ago. Normally all of the crew members joined at the end of the arc they appeard in first, with Jinbei (and MAYBE Vivi) as only exception and this was because he had good reasons storywise. Either he feels when a character would fit in pretty soon or he knows when - like in Carrot´s case - it wouldn´t work out.

It’s been so fucking long with Yamato dominating the conversation (and the canon) that we’ve finally circled back around to this very strong point - Carrot was only ever the popular choice by default, there weren’t any other characters who made sense or expressed a desire to go with Luffy…until Yamato showed up and the diehards decided they were going down with their misguided ship. History repeats itself because some people refuse to learn a fucking thing from it :laughmoji:

No, that's not what Robin did. What you are mentionning is the SAGA they were introduced to.

And good news ! We are in the end of the SAGA of the emperor. So Carrot still has a choice. And I don't think Oda would do such a thing as introducing a character to become a strawhat and stopping halfway.

I do not worry. Carrot was setup to hve a nice development later, all we need is to wait again a little bit longer.

You know that there is a technique right ? Well, when a specific technique is applied it can be quantified. SO when I say, in term of narration, the transformation of Carrot is SUPPOSED TO be more impactfull emotionnally that Yamato's. I'm talking about the technique and the technique in that instance is perfecly quantifiable.

Carrot had narrative significance in Zou and WCI, Wano completely ended that. Its almost like Oda changed his mind in Wano to your disapproval. Yamato wasnt even planned to join the Straw Hats, then she exploded in popularity and now she is almost minted to join.

I don’t think Oda uses popularity in regards to anyones chances to join. If he did Law would’ve been a SH 10 years ago.

No, Any good artist knows the simple fact that good design doesn't mean complicated design.
