The most obvious answer is to preemptively stop all discussion on the matter. The assumption before he came out and admitted he did it was that trickster altered the EoD result in some way. You even expected a lynch redirect yourself. Ekko's flip being doctored would probably be discussed for quite a bit today. Though I don't have serious doubts Ekko was scum anyway. Could be to just cover for Hisoka if there are more clues or info that could lead back to them.

There are plenty of potential explanations, but bottom line, the coincidence is strong enough to raise the question even if an obvious explanation is absent.
