I enjoyed the arc first act of WCI and loved the Tea Party, it's the second half of the arc after the fall of the castle that I loathe.

Wano had some high moments but was way too inconsistent, far too long and Udon, Oden's flashback when he came back to Wano and Onigashima raid were just straight up garbage.

Wano was wildly inconsistent.

WCI was consistently shit.

All the Strawhats > half the Strawhats
Beast Pirates > Big Mom Pirates
Actual fights > wedding cake escape
Literally anything in existence > the Germa plotline

WCI getting the serious nostalgia treatment of most arcs here

At the very least WCI attempted, although failed for the most part, give Sanji some character moments and development. Wano severly lacked such items, abandoned many plot threads, and outright shat the bed when it came to Kaido as a villian and a character, who should be the biggest big bad thus far, but yet falled so short as one in actuality. It's arguable that Katakuri had more of a presense than Big Mom and Kaido combined.

Wano was supposed to be the climax of the Yonko Saga, a much higher importance of an arc than WCI by comparison, but its execution is much worse in almost every way that you can think of.

WCI started great and then turned into a mess halfway.
Wano started mediocre then reached levels of bad writing I genuinely didn't know were possible

WCI - 7/10
Wano - 1.5/10
Pretty much this.

WCI was actually a very good arc up until the Tamatebakko explosion. Everything that happened afterwards ("weeeeedddiiiiingggg caaaaaaakeeeee" and plot-conveniences galore), well, let's not talk about it again.

So all in all we got 50 really good chapters and 30 chapters we can just forget.

I'll take that over the glorious storywriting mess that was Wano all day long.

Wano really seems like Oda wanted way too much. He wanted to write a complex story that ties perfectly with all his side-characters he built up for so long and also tied all the buildups from back in FI, PH, Dressrosa and Zou together.

Well, he failed.

Oda abandoned his strengths (great worldbuilding and basic, not too complex storywriting) and tried to do things he simply is not good at (advanced characterization of many characters, writing consistent and more complex plots).

That's what Oda has to learn.

He's not a Miura or Togashi, who could pull off that kind of writing.

Oda has completely different strengths and should just focus on those instead of trying things he just can't do.

This part of WCI made the arc itself and the succeeding arcs suffer... Not sure where did I read it but an editor said that Oda purposedly extended WCI because of his new ideas... Now he's rushing towards the end fast, potentially writing off presumably better ideas...

Wci had a bad ending I agree but even the second part had his goat moments, also the most import thing is that Oda close WCi without many questions left, he done it well to explain the story and overall Wci was his best work.
Alone the Teaparty chapters with BM flashback>>>>> Anything what the Beast pirates and Kaido get.
That was a big wtf moment when Luffy and co get their ass beaten by BM force.

Storytelling, handle the plot, character build up and also fights and tension, Wci was far better.
Look at OJ,Twitter and reddit back then, most people still liked WCi allthought the ending could became better. Now you have a big war with the fandom right now. I never see the fandom been so split up in two fractions like in wano arc which shows how messed up the wano arc was when the most loyal fans even start to hate it.

WCi>>Wano

I cant vote an 150 chapters arc with 100 filler chapters over Wci, I rly enjoyed the design of bms kids, it was pleasant to look at wci for the most part, yeah we cant have a perfect arc, Sanji got no fights, in this term he was cucked, but he had his plot, Luffy had a dope fight with katakuri, even tho there was a lot of plot armor in it, it wasnt nearly as bad as the fight vs Kaido, and the big mom stuff at the end was bad, but in wano, the characters are shit for the most part, the story of wano is full of fillers, and not the good type of fillers, the insignificant types.
Wci>> Wano, and its not even close.

Whole Cake Island was at the very least, a self contained mess. Everything I disliked about WCI only affected my enjoyment of WCI itself.

Wano however is such an absolute, disgusting dumpster fire that it retroactively shits on the whole series and it affects my enjoyment of One Piece as a whole.

The Whitebeard Pirates were reduced to being absolute bitches, all of the Yonko and legendary pirates (bar Roger) of the previous age were reduced to lackeys of some generic big bad with a name that looks like it went through a randomized word generator, the World Government looked absolutely fucking stupid over the Nika Fruit nonsense and of course, the retroactive middle finger that is the Nika Fruit itself.

So based on this, WCI is the better arc since it didn't derail the whole damn story.

Tis best not to tempt both fate and Oda. :believe:
Good take. Wano had a lot of good moments but way more bad moments then Whole Cake so I'd have to agree. The nika fruit stuff is stupid but it's tolerable.

Im telling you right now,the Final War will be worse as Wano

Especially if you take Odas "The final war will be better as MF" for real.
It's gonna be so rushed were gonna get like 100 offscreened fight 50 unusually short fights and maybe 3 full fights.
