With recent infos, Zoro lineage is being even more clealre day by day, that's why he felt quickly connected to Yasu.
This is why his master was a shimotsuki, why he looks like a shimotsuki.
His mother is a shimotsuki for sure but his father might be Roronoa or something.

The M3 are all from a prestigious/famous clans/kingdoms/families

@Light D Lamperouge can you help me tag Zoro fanboys please?

Luffy's a D
Zoro's probably a Shimotsuki
Nami's ability to read sea has been commented on as being almost supernatural (though it hasn't been focused on in years)
Ussop's dads on Shanks' crew, and Shanks had heard of him even prior to him becoming a Red Hair
Sanji's a Vinsmoke
Okay, Chopper's just a reindeer, but Kureha knows about the Will of D and there's always room for Hiriluk to have done something fairly big
Robin's parents tried to decipher the Poneglyphs (her father being an interesting mystery given he was mentioned once)
Don't know about Franky's birth parents other than them being pirates but his adopted dad made the PK's ship
Brook's not all that special so far but we don't know what the "certain kingdom" he worked for was
Jinbei's adoptive brother took on the Celestial Dragons.

Most of the Strawhats are special or stand out in some way, with potential plot lines for all the others as well

Don't think he's a son of Ushimaru. That seems like it would need a lot of jiggling around with the timeline to work out, let alone the question of how Ushimaru would even end up on East Blue.

I would think it's either his grandmother was on the Kozaburo boat, or his mother was the child of someone who was. So Roronoa is either his father or his grandfathers family name.

He's definitely of Wano descent, likely of Shimotsuki descent. Possibly why Yasu took an immediate liking to him.

And Tashigi's a Shimotsuki as well.

This only seems possible/likely if she’s really Kuina’s long lost twin like many have theorized. Don’t know why, but that feels like the point when we’ve crossed the line into cliche territory - Zoro being from a famous family is a little on the nose as is, but his rival, master, AND the stand-in for the former is too trite for my taste.

Once Oden died, Ushimaru saw dark times ahead and smuggled his wife and 1 year old son out of Wano and told them to go to EB village.

I'd say it gives us the most logical answer as to why there's a spitting image of Kuina fascinated with swords running around.

Doesn't have to be a long lost twin either, just have Kozaburo having a shit ton of children and letting them lose on the East Blue to breed. Cousins looking alike isn't much of a stretch.

And I still think Denjiro's a Shimotsuki as well.
