I agree. It probably will be more serious than usual. Akainu is an extremely personal opponent. I just think there will be a few stupid moments because of Luffy, not Akainu.

This is why I doubt the Sabo claims to that fight. He wasn't there when Ace was killed. It would be super disingenuous to the payoff of seeing Luffy get back at him, which we know exists because Luffy has expressed disdain for Akainu several times.

Hell, the whole main drive to train for 2 years came from not saving his brother and being able to fight Logia's and other conqueror users properly.

I think you can still portray it well regardless. Not every fight has to be generated by animosity.

Zoro and Mihawk can have a serious fight, just like Luffy and Shanks can, while still respecting each other etc. That's essentially how Kata and Kaido's fights went, enjoying the fight and acknowledging your opponent.

I doubt it's gonna be a "friendly" duel is my point. When OP characters fight, they fight. Sparring doesn't really exist.

The clash is for sure happening, and they definitely want to fight each other.

yes, because Mr 1 fight is great because of Zoro and the stakes of the arc

Mr 1 was never the interesting part of the fight, at least for me

dragon's plot imo is to destroy the world government so he either fights the elders or fights imu and fails.
sabo's plot is to get vengeance for ace so he fights akainu

Eh I'm sure Oda will find a way to connect these two together.
They are both 55 year olds and Sakazuki was extremely pissed when he found out that Luffy's father is Dragon.
They were probably bitter rivals when they were young.

Also, fuck Sabo's vengeance. Luffy was there when Ace literally died right in front of him. I think Luffy got first dibs over Sabo.

those weren't bonks they didn't just up and got clubbed down in a face off coming in fresh with a Straughn forward no named attack

-Luffy vs Kaido was a an actual brutal 1v1.. and Red Rock was a comeback from Act one so Kaido still looked good after it and general in that whole RT altercation

- BB wasn't a Yonko back then nor was he aware of Megallen's ability to poison.. and that Megallen technically didn't overwhelm em.. more like left them to die eventually

- You can't compare unaware Linlin mega bonk by Queen to Yamato straight club bonk to fresh Aramaki with supposedly better coO

Probably equal or Sabo a bit superior. He's basically Ace who was ought to become the PK so I'm guessing that will be Sabo's ceiling
