I'd love to see the reason for Kaido backing down from Shanks encounter. Man so fight horny dipped out of blue. Can either help or make things worse for me.
Shanks is Roger of this Era. Kaido wasn't convinced he can take on Oldbeard until he was sick and ready to die at MF.

This is a personal theory of mine... but I think King & Kaidou went to Marineford to because they thought Ace might be Joyboy. Since, Ace came to Onigashima a couple years ago, wrecked it, swore that he'd beat Kaidou and liberate Wano etc,. and both King & Kaidou knew from the beginning that Joyboy is the man who'd beat Kaidou & liberate Wano.
I think Shanks just told him that Ace wasn't the Joyboy or someshit (because he probably knew that Luffy was it, since he bet his arm on the new era & gave him the Sun God Nika fruit etc,.).
