Well, if Zoro didn't fight Kaido maybe Oda would have time to invest in Zoro's character, but for the fans Zoro fighting Kaido is much better, fuck his character, who cares about character? We instead want to see Zoro fight top tiers.
the assumption was fighting kaido would in part play a role with revealing things about his character
kaido after all was responsible for killing ushimaru
fighting kaido isnt an excuse for not addressing it after the war
it also isnt an excuse for not rounding up the samurai prior to the war
stop using the fact he fought kaido as some kind of excuse as to why oda cant deliver on what he had set zoro on course for.

I hope Oda pulls a reverse Sanji when WCI explored his character and did nothing on his fighting and then Wano completed his character's arc and gave him some combat feats
Maybe we will get to see Zoro's character explored more on the next arc when he gets to spend time with Yamato
Oda reveals that the rat Chuji from Onigashima isn't any descendant of the rat from Sanji's childhood. Oda drew this to depict the fact that Sanji's kind to the core.
