But they should be there when the Roger Pirates deciphered the 4 Red Pony to pinpoint the exact location of Laughtale. So while they didnt come to Laughtale, they could possibly know where it was.
That's why Shanks doesnt have a Red Pony (not that we know of). He doesnt need them.

In thesis, there should be no reason for both Buggy and Shanks to not know what the One Piece is.
While they didn't go to Laugh Tale they still waited on the ship and should have talked about it. Otherwise Buggy would not focus so much on other treasures instead of One Piece. And Shanks bet on the future must also be connected to it.

Shanks was left handed, the same hand he bet on the New Era. Not disagreeing his swordmanship was on par with Mihawk but it's obviously not going to be the same without his dominant hand. Mihawk, being someone who wants a good sword fight, his quote makes sense.
Shanks focused on his haki and then later became a Yonko.

But why is it a *must* that Shanks has some power that propels him past Mihawk?

Doesn't it make more sense that both Mihawk & Shanks got stronger over time, yet due to Shanks no longer having his arm, he naturally fell slightly behind?

IMO, the only way to argue Shanks > Mihawk is either by believing that Shanks isn't a swordsman or by believing that Mihawk's title is fraudulent. There really should not be any in-between nonsense such as, "Mihawk would win in a swordfight, but in an 'anything-goes' scenario, Shanks wins."
