I honestly though there would be this "ideal son/child" dynamic between them, where Jack is the adoptive son/child of Kaido and yearns to impress him and be his favourite and Kaido being sympathethic/comforting to Jack on the rooftop adds to this too.

Its a harsh contrast to how he treats Yamato and would have made a GREAT clash between them. As you said, them being same age adds to to this perfectly and also Yamato being like Kaido's "Ace". too.
