I get the feeling it might’ve been bigger in the original scope of the Pein arc, where Pein leaves Konoha and Naruto confronts him else where.
Tbh the ending of the Pain arc was pure ass pull and butchered, but it was still pretty emotional(more so in the anime) at the end when Naruto is finally acknowledged, I had tears in my eyes and was like “shit we are near the end aren’t we”
Little did I know:gokulaugh:

It was the perfect closure to Naruto’s arc and Kishi never replaced that drive with anything new.

Yeah, I wish Nagato’s turn was a bit more played out. He needed more screen time in the manga regardless, he was a very interesting character and having him instantly give his life for Konoha was kinda meh. Woulda been cooler if Naruto had to practice what he preached and Nagato walked away with his life and Naruto having to bury his hatred.

I absolutely hate how Boruto made Naruto looks like a clown, undermining all his faith and hard work for peace, now we know Nagoto and Sasuke were right all along
