I really light this from Oda, actually. Having Shanks be able to stop Future Sight, and having Future Sight be better geared towards 1v1s, are nice balances for the ability. I was worried it might be overpowered when Luffy acquired it, I'm glad I was wrong.

Uta was 2 when Shanks found her. Her parents were killed, so he's not her biological father.

The reason he kept her is seemingly for the same reasons Roger kept Shanks and raised him as his son it seems.
