Looking from this scan, it looks like Crocodile used his awakening + hardening to destroy these ships. He never showed this kind of technique and seeing how these "blades" were shaped from the ground, very sharp, I believe this has to be awakening.
Even in Alabasta, Crocodile hinted how he awakened his fruit - and he also knew about the Zoan awakening as well. Furthermore, he demonstrated a technique which influenced his surroundings and turned it into sand as well.
Yes Mihawk said that it's harder to becomes PK then to become WSS , but guess what? becoming PK isn't a ONE MAN MISSION , you need AN ENTIRE GOD LEVEL CREW to becomes PK.

and this is true for EVERY SINGLE straw hats , EVERY SINGLE STRAW HAT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY FOR LUFFY TO BECOME PK
whereas surpassing Mihawk only takes 1 person effort

He traveled the world to get stronger. Kaido never fought WB, Shanks, and Big Mom in the past two decades but we know for a fact that he was the WSC. Why? Because Oda decided to give him the title and he later justified it with feats and portrayal. We have little reason to believe Oda would make Mihawk's title fake especially when it's literally tied to the second most important character's dream.
The entire reason why he looks forward to fighting Zoro is that he would finally get someone who can legitimately challenge his title. The VC literally states that he's looking for a Swordmaster superior to Red-Hair.
