The Rocks pirates had an issue of distrust and lack of camaraderie. They split off in the first chance which obviously happened at God valley. There's a reason Kaido talked about the betrayal of pirates. They were betrayed at God valley by one or several members.
As for Koby. No issue that isn't easy to retcon. Koby is like a MC. Dragged through the story and no matter what happens he'll get the necessary Ws to reach his goal.
The portrayal is pretty obvious. Trains under Haki man Garp, uses only Haki himself. Close ties to Luffy and promised him that they'll fight in the future and now coincidentally he gets a special plot with Luffy's main rival who also is this gens Xebec.
The logistics aren't important. Oda will do it.
