Questions & Mysteries Are the Gorosei, actually old?

#1
So the popular theory amongst the fandom in regards to the Gorosei, are that they are all hardened combat veterans, who have gained immortality through the power of the Ope Ope No Mi, at some point during the void century. In this regard, it leads many to believe that at some point during the story they will be turned into younger versions of themselves via the power of Jewelry Bonney. Now that Bonney has be reintroduced into the story, I got to thinking, and in reality, this sequence of events doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Starting off, what we know about Jewelry Bonney, is that at some point she was being held captive by the World Government. She also has a deep rooted connection to Bartholomew Kuma, who is a Revolutionary army member, and she cares about him tremendously.

Now for some reason, Kuma, who is an anti-government extremist, decided to completely cut ties with the Revolutionaries, and voluntarily agree to become an experiment for the World Government. The most logical conclusion for why Kuma would do this, is if it was to save someone he cares about.... Jewelry Bonney. Now I know she eventually escaped from the World Government, and Kuma remained loyal to going through with the program, and people could argue why didn't he just stop after she escaped, but that wouldn't work. If the agreement was he becomes their ultimate weapon in exchange for her freedom, then even if she escaped, if he breaks that agreement, they would continue to pursue Bonney until the end of time. So logically, he would uphold his end of the bargain, in hopes that they uphold theirs.

But this is where it begins to not make sense. Jewelry Bonney cares just as much about Kuma. So if she had the ability to grant the Gorosei their desire, which is youth, then she would do so without hesitation, so Kuma wouldn't become their experiment. So why wouldn't she give them what they want to save Kuma? The simple answer is..... She can't. At least not yet.

So this got me thinking, why wouldn't she be able to give them their youth back, if that's what they desired? And further more, if you think about it, if these guys were all turned immortal during the void century, how did all of them achieve that at such an old age? It's not exactly easy to get your hands on a Devil Fruit once it reincarnates after the user dies, but the Gorosei managed to do it 5 times (6 counting Im) in such a short period of time, while they were all approaching the end of their lives?

So that got me thinking. If the Gorosei and Im truly are from the Void Century, then wouldn't it make more sense that they all achieved immortality, when they were much younger? But if thats the case, then how come the Gorosei all look like old men now? They shouldn't age if they are immortal right? In chapter 1059, we learned that if Boa Hancock turns you to stone, that you will remain stone, even if she were to die. What if that's the same case for Jewelry Bonney's Devil fruit? What if the Gorosei became immortal when they were young, but the owner of Bonney's Devil Fruit from the void century turned them all into old men before he/she died? And now they've spent the last 800 years trying to get back to their real appearances, but the only way to do so, is for Jewelry Bonney to awaken her devil fruit, so she can permanently turn them back. These guys aren't old men, hoping to become young again, but rather young men, trapped in old men's bodies, hoping to get their original bodies back. Then the Kuma/Bonney situation makes a lot more sense. If Bonney could change the Gorosei back to save Kuma, she would have done so, but right now she can't, because she needs to awaken to do it.

That's an interesting theory.

Though, the Gorosei said that the Nika fruit is a legend even to them, and they didn't know or weren't clear about the Nika fruit name change. If they are from the Void century, they should know that right?.
That is true.

Another option could be, is that the Gorosei are all from different periods of time. So everyone one of them is immortal, but none of them are from the Void Century.

Cause when they say "It's a Legend even to us", it does imply they are much much older, and have been around a long time.

Yeah. The young one that looks like sanji does seem more inexperienced than the others. Totally possible.

Problem is if they all were young then how they all got hands to ope ope no mi?

Even if they did then it will take generations of ope ope no mi users to perform the surgery - 6 (Gorosei+ IM) means 6 ope ope no mi users and even if they die in early ages then it will still take a century or two atleast to perform surgery on all of them.

This doesn't add up.

So, I don't think Gorosei are Immortals but certain choosen ones because getting hands on ope ope no mi so many times just doesn't make sense.

Also, if ope ope no mi was indeed so much preferred by them then we don't see them going after Law at all. Infact, wg made law a warlord.

So, I think only IM got immortality whereas Gorosei have something else going on which made them live longer but aren't immortal

Gorosei are likely like Doffy, Celestial Dragon's who know how to throw a punch and Imu's Calamities equivalents (depending on their standing as villains in the final arc, I am assuming their are finals either for Luffy and his crew/allies or Revs).

The Holy Knights might be the F6 equivalents, Seraphim the Numbers. CP0 vs Sword continues.

We can't be sure there was just one Ope Ope no mi in the void century. Perhaps there were dozens :kayneshrug:

Or devil fruits might have been created at the end of the void century by the ancient Kingdom scientists to store their technological achievement in order to protect it. Even Vegapunk and Judge were able to manipulate lineage factor, it's not impossible.

Well I did do a theory that Devil Fruits didn't exist during the Void Century, and they were actual abilities. If you're interested you can read it here.
