Seems like, in order to make permanent black sword, you couldn't just "frequently" or "usually" using sword and imbue it with strong haki.
You have to "always" using that sword in order to make it permanently black.
Have you seen Mihawk using his punch to beat opponent?
Not saying he couldn't, but he never use it from what we know.
Even when he want to give his opponent advantages, he use small sword (or knife) instead of going barehanded.

Man, this debate happens every other week on this site. Worstgen is sword gang basically so anyone considered a swordsman in One Piece (because of Zoro and Mihawk fans) gets treated like they are more“lethal” than most characters for example.

Not once have these characters like Shanks and Roger have emphasized in their ambitions about being powerful or even the best swordsman. This manga isn’t Bleach for Christ sake. People treating black swords as if it’s some universal Bankai shit to display strength. One Piece powerscaling isn’t linear like that sorry.

1. He haven't wield Gryphon for that long, or
2. He has another way of fight aside from sword, or
3. He is simply weaker than Mihawk
Those 3 possibilities are applied to anyone who we saw wield a sword but not have black blade:
Either they haven't wield their sword for long, has another way of fight aside from sword, or simply weaker than Mihawk/Ryuma.
