Zoro's backstory is heavily tied into Ancient Wano, so Oda is saving it for later plot reveals.

Same reason we don't have Kaido or King's full backstories (though it's possible we get Kaido's backstory from King at this point).

Zoro is Ryuma's son sent to the future by Toki. His three gold earrings are a reference to Wano being the "Land of Gold" in the past. The reason he's lost is because he's "lost" in time.

The theme of Wano is time travelling Samurai, and, at this point, the only notable Swordsman from Wano who Zoro COULD be descended from is Ryuma. So... get ready to see salt over this happening.

Zoro’s backstory gives us plenty of insight into his character. I would like to know why he started studying swordsmanship in the first place, but the main takeaway is that Kuina’s strength, skill, talent, and ability is what Zoro wanted to surpass. They were both chasing after the same dream but Kuina died.

The older I get, the sadder Kuina’s death is to me. I hope that Oda doesn’t try revealing that someone actually murdered her. She died in an accident. Kuina was a child when she died in an accident. Whatever potential she had ended just like that. It’s all because of a fall. Oda now makes characters survive ridiculous amounts of damage, so now Kuina’s death is a meme. It’s either she was so weak or the stairs were just that powerful.

I am going off on a tangent here, but have any of you ever been to a funeral for a child? I have. Do you know what it’s like to see a bereaved mother holding her surviving son while she’s silently sobbing? Do you know what it’s like to hear a priest say that we can’t answer why a child has died but let’s focus on who he was. Then he talks about how a little boy was excited to start kindergarten, loved playing any Mario game, and was a lego aficionado? Then you realize that he was well loved and taken care of but that’s it. Any potential he had is gone. There’s nothing anyone can do to bring him back. So you just watch as his mother and your friend just continues to sob.

Zoro still thinks about Kuina. The two of them had a bond and it’s strong enough for Zoro to declare that Kuina’s still his best friend. He just doesn’t shout it every five minutes.

why this is the case?
-we can not truly understand the reason behind a character's personality or decisions without fully what he has suffered or what has affected him in the past, throughout his childhood
-in this regard, Oda treated Sanji and Luffy 35 times better than Zoro

-we can feel why Sanji respects women, and how food important is to him
-we also know precisely Sanji, Luffy's family, what their childhood looks like, how that period affected them
-while what Oda has built for Zoro, I must say it is very superficial :zosleepy:
-we don't know anything about the zoo's family (except for a number that looks like Zoro's father)
-we don't know much about his teacher, his best friend is a very not special girl and had a very stupid way to die (or fake death)
-even zoo's final goal, Mihaws, seems to come from nowhere and does not play any important roles in the storyline, I feel Oda created such a character only for Zoro to fight, even now Cross Guild is the less important crew of the new 4 emperors.

conclusion: Zoro is a good but not a fully-satisfying character if Oda wants Zoro to have deep moments just like "hell memory", he should invest more grey matter in Zoro

Going alone.

He completely doesn't fit the crew dynamics. He should've never joined Straw Hats in the first place and just pop up during big events and have his own big prize to take.

Being in the crew ruins his character, especially the fact of him listening and respecting Luffy this much which is weird as fuck.
